Squaring up unprocessed boards

02 Aug

The work on the floor continues. We bum rushed the show and spent most of the day working through 5/7 of the boards. The wood is not perfect for flooring due to the edges being crooked so we attach a straight edged board to 1 side then use that as the edge on the tablesaw for the first pass to give us 1 flat edge. We then take off the edge board and flip the board over and run it through the saw again so we have 2 flat edges..this way we will still have a rustic feel with smaller gaps than the bedroom floor when it goes in. The results look good initially and most of the finished boards are 11 inches wide so there has not been much wood lost with the cuts. We finish off the cuts tomorrow then the planing begins..with ony 6-7 boards needed for J*s bedroom we are hoping to have it all laid tomorrow too. Exciting.
