Frost warning

18 Sep

..frost warning in effect for tonight and the tomatoes are not really ready. Last year we lost veggies to frost so while not looking forward to the prospect of losing more..but tonights warning is for low lying areas and we are high up on a hilly area so we think it will be fine. We don’t have that much anyway but it looks like within a week or 2 all of the veggies will be harvested. Being a month behind due to poor spring weather is really rearing it’s head now!

Things are looking great, in spite of the weather. We’ve bought some old sheets at thrift stores to throw over veggies if a frost is coming… but I’m usually kinda happy to let the frost smoke it all by that time of year. :)

..had I gotten more veggies I would agree..but the tomatoes on the vine represent 95% of the tomatoes we grew this year! hehe..the growing season and my interest in gardening usually peak at the same time. ;)

Hope your garden survives until you can finish your harvest. We picked everything that we could and are letting the tomatoes finish ripening on the counter. It is just too cold at night to save the green ones.

I think you are right Karen..I need to save these little green guys and bring them inside for Jango to watch and drool over! Or just make chow!

Green tomatoes make for good pickling, too!

It’s too soon for frost!! Ok, so I am getting really tired of canning so maybe if the frost wanted to toast mine I would be ok with it. :)

Yeah..if I had a cornicopia of veggies I would not be complaining..I yearn for your problem..the canning one.
