Thank You Inconsistant Weather…

25 Feb

Mild. Freezing. Rain. Snow. Dirt is now mud and the hill on the driveway is a fraaking disaster. A mini-excavator has aslo been going through a couple of times a week whicj is not helping matters at all. So, thanks to all this we have April driveway conditions 2 months early. Yuuuck. We actually drove up this mess 2 days ago in our all-terrain hyundai accent..but I don’t want to push our luck and get stuck so we will park below the mudhole in the hopes of drying it out. Hopefully in a year or 2 this will be made into an actual driveway but for now we have to take our lumps and hump it up the last 200ft.image

..and out for a walk, someone has been using the ‘pistol valley’ sign on the loop as a shotgun target…why can’t they just shoot at grouse like everybody else around here is a mystery. The loop is also a sheet of ice which makes walking challenging…but it does make falling that much easier! Hehe

If there is one thing I hate more than anything else, it is mud. It just gets under my skin like nothing else can.

When we first moved here, it was a long mud slog. I can’t count how many times I got the car stuck that spring. Finally, we had 2″ rock brought out, and haven’t had a problem since. It’s not a real fine surface, but it really helps to make a solid mat to drive on.

Yeah, mud is a menace..spring is terrible. We want to pt in some rock to solidify things but we need to wait until things are finalized with the road access. We actuallt were talking with the excavator driver and he wanted to decrease the grade of the driveway hill and make it wider..but we will see! The car in that location is common for us, we usually keep our rubber boots in the trunck of the car and switch into them before walking up to the homestead..but that usually starts and ends in april not feb! Hehe

I feel your pain. I spent the first 3 years here calling our place “Muddy Acres”. LOL…your all-terrain Hyundai – why, Eric just plowed his way through the snow bank at the end of our driveway in his 4×4 Toyota Yaris. Hahaha, who needs a tractor when you can go petal-to-the-metal and plow through it with a little Toyota? We’ve had a ton of the white crap fall yesterday and over night. Now it’s blowing, and I mean BLOWING. MAKE IT STOP!!!

It is a supreme PITA to have to hump your stuff up the hill in that mud. I guess you’ll bring in a few loads of gravel eventually? Just looking at the top photo makes me cringe. I hope you get some nice warm days to dry things up a bit…

Hehe..I hear you! That car is takin a beating though! Gravel eventually but for now it is what it is. We brought in 2 propane tanks and 3 water yesterday and i tried to use the wheel-barrow..made it 10 feet and was sunk so deep in I had to bring the truck down..and the ruts were even worse. We leveled it off by foot today with the hopes of returning cold weather…and sun!
