Vacation Season

28 Feb

We’ve doubled down on dawgs..some of our friends and family are away down south so we get to dog-sit. Around the house reading and the dogs kept barking at a noise that sounded like someone knocking on a distant we went out to investigate..

(..and talk abot copying posts..shim farm had this earlier in the week )..turned out to be a Pleated-Woodpecker. He was flitting from dead tree to dead tree and spending 5 minutes ravaging each. Those guys are BIG..and powerful..2-3 times the size of a regular woodpecker. I had seen one fly over last summer but this was the first chance I got to see one in action. Amazing but it would not let me get close enough for a shot with my camera/phone.

..and I was taking a look at the deer-hunting stand..needs work ( and I need to close it off my todo list before winter ends) but it was a little too icy and slippery to be up that it will have to wait for a warmer day!

That dawg photo is a riot…funny how they’re all posed, but not one of them’s sure if they should make the first move. The pileated woodpeckers are pretty amazing to see, and they can sure create a lot of damage in little time. I guess mating season has started LOL.

February 28, 2012 at 11:48 am took me 2 minutes to get them to all sit still for 20 seconds! hehe. Yeah, they really are amazing birds..I was really shocked to see how big they were!
