End of Year for Chopping Wood!

15 Apr

We are really hoping that this is it for the wood until the fall..it is such a magical time of year between the time when woodburning ends and before blackfly season begins (usually lasts about 3 days hehe). I held off on getting a wooden handled maul and settled on a free replacement..you can’t argue with the free(kin) price thats for sure! groan.

…by all accounts I think we have enough wood to last us until after next woodburning season ( so read next April)..and that is not even counting the cord-cord.5 (hehe) that we cut last week. We might have enough but we are going to clear out the wood and chunk the remaining stuff we cut down so that we don’t have to deal with it during black fly season which is scheduled to start any day now..I can tell because last night the spring peepers started chirping….and Loki started barking at them. Whenever she barks in the middle of the night I get up and flash a flashlight on the coop to see if something has finally decided to sneak attack the chickens..last night she started barking 3 times and I realized Loki has never really heard ( being a former city dog) spring peepers before so the noise was foreign to her. Hopefully tonight will go a little better.

i can’t wait for the spring peepers – i LOVE them!!! sometimes though, i wish they would say something other than “meep, meep, meep, meep” – bahahahah! (i actually wish they could sing New Order songs – but that’s just me – bahahahah!)!!! i am NOT looking forward to black fly season – ugh! it does look like you guys got enough wood – good job!

this just in – heard a few peepers this evening!!

we didn’t have a lot of rain this spring and the water levels are low – that means that the flowing water is slower – hopefully it wil keep the blackfly numbers down !!

good on you for the free maul – at this rate you will always get a replacement!

i hope loki can get used to the peepers – i imagine when they are in full peeper mode you hear hundreds – lol!

good looking woodpile – should do you fine!

    cheers buddy!

I hope the blackfly population is reduced..but it won’t matter because we usually wear mosquito nets for beginning to end of blackfly season ( about 3 weeks )…they drive me nuts. hehe..but blackflies are no joke…they are a scourge. NIght 2 and 3 and Loki is much better..might be because the intermittant peeping has become a non-stop torrent which is very loud…

      take care!

How in the world did you get that wood stacked up like that? Do you have a fork lift?

added the container then loaded it..if it were much smaller I could have lifted it up there after we filled it! hehe
