Saving the World…

..one toad at a time…

‘Hey there lil fella..looks like you have some mud on ya’

WhAT!….or not.

He hopped away after a brief rest period…usually we let nature be but the toad was waving for help so we felt obligated to help..after throwing the life preserver and it doing nothing we gently shook the snake by the tail and it slithered away hungry..and fast with Loki tormenting it from 3 feet away.

we make homes for all of the toads…that i call frogs….and get them out of harm’s way from the cats – they eat lots of bugs for us.. we love and save as many toads as we can…we also save green snakes, red-bellied snakes and garter snakes as they help our garden….so good on ya egb!

yeah, the homestead abounds with them..this time of year they seem to come out of the woodwork. I think this might be the same snake Jango had an incident with last summer too!

    Wow! Nice photos!

I see a lot of snakes here, but I only ever saw one in hot pursuit of a frog, never in the process of eating one. I did see a black rat snake eating eggs out from under a broody hen, though.

yes..a rare set from A*!..she does a good job, I wish she would do more of the photographing..

Truthfully this is the first time I have ever caught a snake eating something mid-swallow myself..and I practically grew up in a swamp! Yeah, this snake was hanging around the brooder coop the first week ( I caught him inside the brooder coop with the chickens once when Ma was clucking up a storm)..it must have been shocking seeing a snake eating the eggs!

Wow, what a picture. I’ve never seen a snake eat anything. That toad is pretty cute.
