Power in the Bank

1/2 of the battery bank (4 of 8) were officially toast so we bit the bullet and upgraded part 1 of our power system and got some replacement batteries…AC225’s…these 6 are actually almost 2 times the capacity of our ancient trojan batteries. To make sure we keep them fully topped up we will also be installing our additional solar panels and upgrading the panel to charge controller wiring with some proper low gauge braided wiring too..over the next couple of weeks.

..been raining like a banshee around here as of late, the old beaverdam @ the stillwater cannot even be seen..higher than spring water levels…scary high.

We will keep the old batteries charged up and beside the new bank until next spring when they will move into boler for portable power…or emergencies in case anything goes awry..as they tend to do.

Use your imagination!

Do you see a lawn full of grass? Try squinting…no? Close your eyes and think of grass…image

The whole yard is seeded now and we also blocked it all off from the dogs..now we play the waiting game and sit around watching the grass grow..not too exciting. Outdoor activities are coming to an end thanks to early sunsets and lack of motivation..winter is coming.

Tropical Storms x Freshly Rolled Topsoil / Uneven Area + 42 =

image

image

..the 42 is for how many times I said ‘firetruck’. It was a slow and drawn out affair watching she soil wash away as it POURED..we had more rain in 15 hours then we did for 3 month over summer.

image

..but, all repaired and seeded…but if I ever meet that storm in person I am gonna punch him in the face.

image

And the grass is starting to sprout in the tester area too..we did not even block it off from the dogs..I wish the whole area looked like this and had grass coming up..but around 60% washed off during the storm too..good thing it was only a 12×12 area.

..and the area where all the seeds from the test area washed away to:

Rollin Y’all!

Yahoo!..my arms back and legs are exausted now that the topsoiling the yard iis DONE!..and weather seems to be getting back to normal..colder and wetter..perfect to grow fall grass (we hope). Rolling out the lawn was a breeze compared to hauling the 3 tandem loads of soil around the yard..if i never see another shovel and wheel barrow it will be fine with me! image

image

image

..and a final prep dog enclosure made with chicken wire, old floorboards and some shutters..any port in a storm.!.. it should hold up until the grass gets a good start..

Limey

Our most productive part of the garden..too bad this part is just a pile of dirt that was on the other side of the yard..we put down some extra squash plants which would not fit in the garden and they are 20 times the size of the ones we put in the garden…

image

..and final prep work for the summer landscaping..lime pellets for the soil..takes time to release and work its magic but the grass is going on this weekend..one way or the other..

image

image

..hard to get an idea for the whole area but it looks like a bigger version of the picture above..We can’t wait for grass and hopefully the end of Spring mud being trodden into the house.

Bolerama

I have been using kijiji.ca to watch Boler trailer sales for years and recently A* and I started looking at some of them..and within a week of starting to look a 17ft boler popped up for sale…the 17ft model was only made for 2 years and offers an whopping 3ft in length and is a little wider..good shape for a 1979 Boler and also in good working order..so we took the plunge and bought a new travelling home away from home…we are hoping to do some extended trips so hopefully the trailer will pay for itself.

… nice little screen door to keep the bugs out.

This is the sitting area which also converts into a smaller double bed… It is not quite a double bed but it is definitely bigger than a single bed it sleeps me comfortably I am 6′ 2″.

image

This is the kitchen area a propane stove and oven a 12 volt pump water system and a propane water heater. The camper actually has more amenities then our house does.

A bed in the back and a fold down bunkbed above it..

Along the other wall is a propane fridge, furnace as well as the washroom area, complete with shower… But it is a little cramped..

image

It will also be useful in the yard as friends now have somewhere to sleep..we were always a little challenged for space in our 600sq/ft house..and 2 of my friends slept in it last night to try it out..the mini-essence of comfort…we like it!
