We Welcome Storms.

Yay..the storm door is fully in now. Needed to finish off the doorknob so we could put on an actual handle that was capable of opening the door, the bottom weather strip as well as some minor adjustments of the latch side and actual latch.

It really is amazing what a difference it makes inside when it is daylight and you get all that sunshine coming in the doorway..not to mention that is is more draft proof than the outside door was!

image

..truthfully this project was alot of standing around trying to figure things out and make sure I did not ruin the door and the doorway in the process of installing..the actual installation part took less than 2 hours..and that includes the maddening 20 minutes it took to line up the screws to put the handle on!

Perfect Installation Weather

“A*..when do you think it would be best to install our new storm door?”

“I would say the summer when it is warm..that way it won’t matter if we keep the door open.”

“Do you want to wait until summer? What is the temperature now?”

“No..and its -17c out.”

“Sounds like perfect installation weather!”

….so we got all of the pieces out of the box and looked things over. WIth the weather that cold we did not want to be standing outside thinking about things too long.

image

..it took me 15 minutes of looking at the instructions and looking at this 1 piece to figure out how things were supposed to work..

image

..the actual install was easy..especially on the final attempt where we did everything properly..the first attempt did not quite fit so we had to take it apart and do it again..after reconfiguring things the second assembly took 5 minutes..it is amazing how quick things can go when you have a cold imputus breathing down your back..and numbing your hands.

image

..and the final assembly (for today )…we started in sun and ended well after dark (not that it took that long)..we have a small adjustment and to finish the door mechanism…to keep it closed we put on the latch on the inside..which works well for closing but it makes it hard to get inside with no handle to turn to open the closing mechanism. hehe

Sleep Deprived Snow Days

..’I hope it is not snowing too hard…that would mean everyone is home and I would not get to sleep in my comfy kennel…’

Paint n’ Sell

A* and I have been doing a BUNCH of work..too bad none of it has been taking place at our homestead…instead it has been happening at my Ma’s place in preparation of her selling her townhouse and moving into a condo.

image

..truthfully some of the work has been happening at our place…but it is mostly putting our own stuff (which was stored in my mothers basement) into our attic…the attic is getting jammed. The work IS almost done now which is nice because I need to either rest or to start doing some work of my own!..still need to put in the storm door which A*’s parents graciously bought us for Christmas..it is going to be really nice to be able to see the dogs when they are waiting at the front door…as opposed to them scratching at the door when they want in!

Near the Halfway Point

image

Well..we are nearing the halfway point of wood burning..and snow but we have little of it and it is scheduled to be 11c today so the snow we have is melting away…and so is the base of snow we had on our driveway. Once we build up a good 3-4 inch base of snow the driveway is nice and smooth..but it is back into spring mess stage right now.

image

image

..the wood is holding up nicely too..SUCH a difference in heat once we switched over to buring hardwood a couple of weeks ago..burning the scrap softwood is a necessary evil but the hardwood is champ!..2.5 months to go..hopefully it will get cold again but without too much snow.

What a Waste

Been helping my mother clean out the basement of her house…we had some old equipment so we decided to get rid of it and took it to the ‘tech recycling’ place…needless to say I was shocked by the amount of outdated technology that was there…we really do live in a throwaway society and this is one of the best examples of it that I have ever seen.

..it is good to get rid of TV’s but replace them with books not new flat screen’s!
