No before and after shot..my sister and I did a refresh on our mothers kitchen while she was away: cleaned, primed, painted, glazed and added a protective coat…as well as a dissasemble and reassamble for good measure..not hard work but seeing as how she lives in the city I was there for an hour or 2 almost every night for 2 weeks..now I get to finish off my own cupboards..we are really looking forward to it..I am being sarcastic for the record..a little case of cupboards overload in the last month…
..we had bought some grape plants around a month ago and they have been sitting in our window growing..and growing..and were beginning to take over the windowsill..so we took matters into our own hands and got them in the ground. We had big plans for a trellis but for now we opted for not killing the grape vines by keeping them indoors for too long.
During the ‘planting’ I accidentally crushed one when I tripped..it looked to be in bad shape so I planted it anyway..in its own space..if it makes it it makes it.
The location for the ideal setting for the grapes was right where the boler was parked all winter..so first thing to do was to move the boler ( which became clean the boler, go into the attic for the boler cushions and start the propane fridge (horray, cold beer!)). For the other 3 vines ( and there are 3 different varieties in total) I dug a hole, amended the soil and planted..then surrounded them with rocks so the grass would not take over.
..and gave the grapes a stick to climb..grapes are like monkeys and need something to climb otherwise they get bored…but in all seriousness, something more elaborate for the vines to climb is coming soon..hopefully before next spring.
We had the spring unveiling of the Boler..everything was great inside and dry but we gave it a good spring cleaning anyway in preparation of using it…
Amended the new 8 garden boxes and planted some veggies..the soil is not great, even after being amended but we will see..something planted in crappy soil is better than nothing planted in good soil I guess. In a bare spot in our flowerbeds I also got rid of a whack of seeds which were at the bottom of a drawer..I am not expecting much but rather than just throw out the seeds I thought I would try to grow something.
..too much digging..as of late..and I need to take more pictures of the work..add that to my task list.
…and Jango, the ever diligent guard dog is on watch for destructive Japanese Maple pest, Loki..she is nowhere near as she is in the woods nearby peering up a tree at an invisible squirrel…but I guess that is better then knawing on a tree and making the growth invisible.
