Squirrel with Melanism

image

Hard to tell from this terrible photograph but the picture is of a red squirrel (I believe).  Black squirrels are not native to the area and I have never seen them in local cities like in other parts of Canada so I think this one is melanistic,  which is like the opposite of being albino. Not to mention it is not slow like a regular grey/black squirrel.  I have some better shots on my camera and will upload someday.

(the essence of laziness… A picture of a picture of the first day I saw it (and grass.. Wow!) … Don’t worry, the original picture quality is quite poor too)

Weather and Quill Reruns

February in the wild winter has not been so great.. Unless you like snowstorms.

.. And to add insult to injury while out on a walk Loki stuck her head into a porcupine den where they were hibernating and we had to take her to emergency in the middle of the storm to take out a quill we missed (or she broke it off before I jumped her) that was underneath her skin and migrating towards her eye.. Again.

After the procedure the drugs Loki had for her surgery made the trip from the gate to the house in thigh deep snow was quite the adventure..at one point I would have liked to have had a dead Taunton for a rest point.

Same old..

Well, same old thing around here there hasn’t been really anything new to report on.. Some new editions but maybe I’ll get into posting more now that we have some new tech. Working without a laptop make editing posts difficult so I’m going to try to use voice as much as I possibly can looking forward. So look forward to spelling mistakes sentences that don’t make sense and other gobbledygook.
