About

This blog is an electronic version of offgrid spam…let’s not kid ourselves. Expect nothing of value except the sense of wonder that is generated when you finish reading a post and ask yourself ‘why would they bother to post about that?’

If you really want a longer version..we are a couple who decided to make a change to the way we were doing things. We sold our house and bought a small camp with 3 acres and have been off-grid, offgrid and gridless for 3 years and we have not looked back. It’s a work in progress and we thought we would attempt to inform/entertain those who are interested in our projects (and other random thoughts) in the hopes of giving back to other users the way that many blogs and sites that have aided us along the way. Not that it is going to be a good reference point..anyway, expect there to be spelling mistakes and gramatical errors as I don’t like hyper-correcting ..or correcting. Just go with it. In conclusion I would also like to state that this sentence was too long to be typed out on a phone for a sentence that basically was a waste of time for everone involved from beginning to end. (And yes ‘everyone’ is spelled rong in the previous sentence).

..also..In case the last sentence was not indicator enough..don’t expect too much in the way of philosophy or anything overly serious..this is the lighter side of going off-grid and we find that as I go further and further with my posts they usually get increasingly stupid in an attempt to be humorous..there are MANY other blogs who are posting on the same things as me and they do a better job at being informative..I want to carve out a niche in the ‘Idiots who live off-grid’ market. As a note..my posts will not always be in order..I have been posting new and old at the same time so if you see a post that makes no sense please chalk it up to that.

Spam.

Hi there, First time reader. Found your blog on http://www.mellishfieldswest.com/p/chicken-coop.html. I am new to this homesteading movement. When you say “off the grid” , what exactly do you mean – that you are off the electricity grid or does it also include off the public facilities grid of all kinds – water, sewer, gas, etc?

Hi! Yes, we are off-grid. Power via solar panels to a battery bank and converted to 120v for our internal power. We have propane onsite for a small heater and our tankless water heater..sewage is a septic tank and water is from our well…we do use a generator to top up the batteries and power out jet pump until we convert to a 12 or 24v submersible pump..then it will all be solar. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I will do my best to answer! Thanks for stopping by!
