Mighty rare in these parts!

We need to speak quietly so as not to frighten the elusive mechanical creature during its reintroduction stage. I don’t want to spook it.

Don’t get me wrong,  the last 75 days of trekking have been great but we want to bask in the luxury of driving all the way in to our house for a while!

Light Gardening

image

The first things a good garden boxes need is light and heat.. So we did 4 hours of analysis and decided that the snow was not helping things and shovelled off the beds.  Who said gardening was rocket science!

We think that these raised beds are going to be herbs and spices only..with a tractor on our purchasing horizon we will have a bigger garden.. Maybe not this year but hopefully established this year sometime.

Better Late than Never

Warm weather is finally starting to hit…about a month late but welcome none the less. We also get a slush/water/ice walkway for free! And,  in other positive news,  we are able to walk to the truck without snowshoes today. Coming soon,  a truck on our own land! (I am actually really excited about that)

.. And out local arborist, a pair of pileated woodpeckers.  About the size of a crow and easy to find once they start hammering a tree.  Fairly loud for around these parts.

Like snow posts? Look no further.

Who likes posts about more snow!  Make it stop and I will too.

I predict May 7th for the first Spring Peeper sounds.  Depressing.

The good news is we are cutting way down on mowing.. The shovel is at the bottom of the snow on the frozen grass.  Still about 50cm of snow on the lawn.

image

And we dug out around the Nootka trees as the snow is really settling and weighing the limbs down.  This is more snow (as you may have noted with the same themed posts) than I thought possible for the area and had I known what it might have now done to the trees and bushes I would have wrapped or shovelled differently.  Some of the bushes seem really spread where they were normally were tightly bunched.

Truthfully it is not as bad as things seem the snowshoeing has been great too.

Snow Trek Front Crawl

image

A great day for a snowshoeing trek over to the lake.  The snow is crusty so the dogs have almost no issues breaking through to the deep snow.  Something was through the area last night ( but veered away from our property boundary. Looks like a bobcat. )

Our swimming area is not ready for the season yet (A* does the front crawl with snowshoes to demonstrate).. Nice and warm with the sun reflecting.

And our old road in has a couple of low spots..when I saw the actual ground I did not recognize it.  ‘what is the brown stuff and the dark colored snowballs?’.. Turns out it was dirt and rocks.

High Trim

One of the good things about all this snow.. We can easily get to branches on trees which were too high.  LET US LOOK AT OUR SILVER LINING!

.. And we finally got the deck cleared off.. Many rounds of chipping away layers of ice and awkward shoveling but it is an area of sanity for us. A* clips Lokis nails and poses with our gear transportation implement (the cheap purple sled)
