Hummingbird Hiatus

image

.. One or 2 hummingbirds are back after a long absence.. Funny,  they must not have got the email about the lack of flowers and nectar in the area. No shot of the elusive bugger.. Too early in the season to let me get close enough for a half decent shot.

And,  ever wonder why dandelions are so hard to dig out? A rare full pull(s):

Adventure Prepping

Weather has improved dramatically.. We have been busy as a result catching up on things which we usually do in April.. Such as cleaning the adventurmobile after removing it from its wintery cocoon of snow and weatherproof wrapping

.. The crappy thing is start since we got all that snow in March and April we have had almost no rain.. And usually April is all rain. The fist week of May the fire index was at ‘extreme’.. Odd really. Oh well,  it beats snow!

What a Wonderful (automated) World

20150505_001111-ANIMATION
..so I took those shots of the moon the other night..Unbeknownst to me google has been automatically uploading/backing up all of the shots I take with my phone. No big deal as it saves them to my own area/drive. Also no big deal, google has ‘Google Wow’ed some of my shots and automatically created an animated gif for me of some of the moon shots..

..and a shot from halloween I just found:
Photo

..here is to hoping automated systems take over the world..it starts with a simple automated animated gif..it ends with Skynet! hehe

Moon Shots

image

.. Took out the big gun to try out the new snapzoom Binocular attachment with my zhumell 25×100’s moon.  I am not expecting really good quality shots with my crappy phone camera but I am happy with the results.  The moon had quite a glow so getting the image quality right via limited settings was difficult.. Might need some other software..or not. It is actually nice to look at whatever you are viewing on the back of the camera instead of craning my neck to have a look.

.. And some ‘fiddling with settings’  shots.. A full moon is hard to get a good shot of due to it all being so bright..and cruddy camera work.

Snapzooms Binocular Attachment

The other week I was messing with my binoculars and was trying to take some shots with my camera through the eyepiece.. With mixed results.  Too wobbly and hard to hold in place.  Got me thinking that there must be something online which could do something to help..

image

image

The apparatus attaches on to the eyepieces and an adjustable area designed for phone cameras allows a user to look at the (attached)  phone screen and take pictures with a greatly enhanced zoom.

image

Took about 2 minutes to get the snapzooms attachment on to the binoculars and a couple more minutes to get the phone aligned correctly ( the phone took the pictures so no pictures with the phone attached).

The before shot:

.. And the 2 shots using snapzooms:

You will need a tripod (or a beer case) to make the shot steady.. These shots were through the day to day 15×70 binoculars and they are fairly heavy so the shots were unusable due to slight movement. Before I attach the snapzooms to my 25x100s I will bring out my tripod.

More results soon.. I need to wait for some sunny days and something to take pictures of  something which is worth taking pictures of.. Not that my garbage bin is not beautiful.

Sure Signs of Improvement

image

It is easy to tell that the weather is improving.. Loki in her usual warm weather sleeping area between bouts of squirrel patrols.
